ARTIST NOTES: Inspired by the colourful Longtail boats of Thailand, this squat vase reflects the bright,the faded,the patched and the mended fishing boats found in the fishing villages of SE Asia. The sea washes and bleaches, and the sun warps and bends these wooden vessels. I have tried to replicate the look and feeling of the Kolae - the whitewashed softness of colors, the multitude of brightnesses, and the patchwork necessity of reusing and repurposing preloved building materials. Planks of coloured clay replicate boat planks.
