I have been an artist and maker since my early childhood discovery of plasticine. Art remained a hobby whilst earning my living as an academic, lecturing internationally in construction at universities in England, Hong Kong and Australia. Largely self-taught, I learned the basics of drawing and painting from books and untutored life-drawing classes, whilst I developed clay sculpture techniques from evening classes in the UK. My artwork has always been about revealing the energy and vitality of human and animal forms – and having fun. I am essentially bringing clay to life. This has taken on new resonance for me in my quest and journey to recover my own energy and vitality following brain surgery in 2014.
