ARTIST BIO

Shane was born in Tallangatta, Victoria, and lived in the picturesque Mitta Valley to the age of 9 then moved to Wakool in southern New South Wales where his family established a mixed farming enterprise consisting of cattle, dairy, sheep and cereal cropping.

Having grown up in the country, Shane’s appreciation and connection with the land has remained with him throughout his life and his paintings reflect his affinity with nature.

Shane’s interest and ambition to pursue oil painting started during his childhood and while his career and family took priority for a period, his interest and desire to paint prevailed.

A predominantly self-taught artist, Shane studied human anatomy, figure and portrait drawing through books and magazines.  He also visited many galleries in Australia and overseas to develop his skills, techniques and aspirations.

While living in South Australia’s Riverland in the 1990’s, Shane was a founding member responsible for establishing the Riverland Gallery.  During this period his work was selected for the South Australian Country Arts travelling exhibition.

Shane has received a number of awards for his work including a three times finalist in the Alice Bale award and recently winning best Oil or Acrylic at the 2025 Campbelltown Art Show.

In 2023 Shane took and early retirement from his busy engineering role to pursue his life long ambition to be become a full-time artist.
